With only two weeks remaining in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament, Pakistan is testing few players to finalize their squad for the mega-event. For the power-hitting role, explosive batsman Asif Ali was given a go and he seems to have no plans of disappointing the think tank.
After producing a stunning batting effort in a pressure run-chase in Southampton, the 27-year old continued his good run to record another half-century against England. In the third ODI, Asif came into bat when his team was 162-4 and added 125 crucial runs with Imam-ul-Haq for the fifth wicket.
Stunning England with his power-hitting, the belligerent striker smashed a couple of fours and three sixes to score 52 runs. The Faisalabad born allowed Pakistan to achieve the needed momentum and get in a position to score in excess of 350.
To his dismay, Asif’s batting performance didn’t bear fruits as Pakistan was decimated by a scintillating batting effort from the English batters. This allowed the home team to register an emphatic victory by 9 wickets. With two games to go, Pakistan would need to win both of the games to save the series and bag the winning momentum ahead of the all-important mega-event.
