Courtesy of a sensational batting effort in the third ODI against England at Bristol, Pakistan was close to record a comeback in the five-game ODI series. However, a lackadaisical bowling display complemented by a shoddy fielding effort from Pakistan allowed the hosts to record the 5th highest run-chase in the history of ODI cricket.
Nevertheless, Pakistan’s captain and wicket-keeper batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed was still able to extract some positives out of the game.
Sharing his views on the match, the 31-year old believes that the form of openers and power-hitter Asif Ali ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament appears to be a positive sign for Pakistan. Moreover, the Karachi born lionized the English batters for stunning Pakistan with their belligerent batting.
Dissecting the defeat against England, Sarfaraz Ahmed added, “Chasing a target like 360 is never easy and England must be credited for producing an emphatic batting performance. But there are some positives for us. The openers are doing well for us and then Asif Ali is scoring consistently. Before the World Cup event, it is a promising sign for us.”
