Shahid Afridi’s illustrious career is filled with enterprising knocks that provided Pakistan some memorable wins over the years. Even in the twilight of his career, the explosive all-rounder’s striking power did not decline one bit as he conjured up the big hits frequently.
The Asia Cup 2014 encounter versus India thus remains fresh in the minds of cricket fans, for Afridi’s unbelievable back-to-back maximums against the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin.
Recalling the last over drama that accompanied the one-wicket win, Afridi related how he had earlier advised Saeed Ajmal to not go for the sweep shot but his words fell on deaf ears.
“In the Asia Cup 2014 match against India, when Saeed Ajmal came to bat, I specifically warned him not to play the sweep shot. But I didn’t realize he would act like me [and got out]. After that, I just prayed to God that Junaid Khan gets a single somehow and returns the strike to me,” Afridi fondly remembered.
