Dean Jones not happy with the World Cup format

The upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 would reintroduce the round robin format in cricket as all the top teams would play against each other in order to reach the knockout stage as opposed to the previous practice of playing in groups.

However, former Australian skipper Dean Jones is not satisfied with the format of this year’s mega event as he feels that there should be a best of 3 finals rule in order to eliminate the advantage from either side.

“I don’t like the way they have scheduled it. Can you imagine India winning nine games, going on top and qualifying for the knockouts and then losing the toss and Duckworth & Lewis coming in. It takes four years of hard work and sometimes even 20 years to get a player ready for the World Cup and a team can be done in by the weather,” he said.

Therefore, Jones has suggested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to arrange such tournaments in groups so that they could be wrapped up in lesser time.
