Last year, defending champions Australia went through a horrible patch where they lost a plethora of games. However, ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup tournament, Kangaroos got back to winning ways as they registered series victories against India and Pakistan.
Former English pacer Darren Gough is greatly impressed with the preparations of his rival team. Contrary to the popular belief of England or India winning the mega-event, the 48-year old opined that Australia is going to surprise both the teams and win the 50-over competition.
The Yorkshire born added that Australia is carrying immense confidence and with the inclusion of cricketers like David Warner and Steve Smith, the unit looks sturdy which can challenge any top side of the cricketing world.
“I’m going to go with Australia. I hate saying it – I really do – but I am going with Australia. I believe they’re now in a good place. They’ve made a lot of changes and I think they have all the bases covered, especially with Warner and Smith coming back,” Gough said on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 preview show.
