After giving England a run for their money in the 4th ODI, fans expected Pakistan to come hard and win the last game of the five-game ODI series. It was all looking good as the bowling unit delivered a decent performance on a flat deck by restricting England to 350. However, this time batting department failed to seize the moment as hosts registered a 54-run victory.
The injury of the opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq made way for Abid Ali to get a game. Considering the fact that the selectors are set to reshape Pakistan’s squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament, Abid needed to make this chance count and score big. Instead, the 31-year old failed by scoring only 4 runs as he was struck leg-before-wicket by Chris Woakes.
It would be harsh to ignore the marginal call against the Lahore born player but it still goes down in record books as a chance missed. Abid’s unimpressive outing has augmented explosive batsman Asif Ali’s chances to feature in the forthcoming mega-event starting from May 30 in England and Wales.
