Afghanistan thrashed Ireland for a massive 126-run victory to tie the two-match ODI series 1-1. An emphatic performance from Mohammad Shahzad in the batting department, followed by a stormy spell of pace bowling from Gulbadin Naib left the home side in complete tatters by the end of the contest.
Batting first, the tourists rode on the fireworks from Shahzad’s bat to post their third highest total in ODI cricket, making 305/7 in their allotted overs. Later, the newly appointed skipper Gulbadin led by example as he scythed through the Irish lineup.
Bowling in tight lines troubling Ireland’s batsmen, the 28-year-old returned match-winning figures of 6/43 in 9.2 overs, also marking his career-best performance till date. Gulbadin’s timely return to form and his inspirational leadership is a huge plus for the Afghan side ahead of the World Cup.
