Saqlain to mentor England's bowlers in the World Cup

Pakistan’s legendary spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has been persuaded by the English Cricket Board (ECB) to stay on as the team’s spin bowling consultant throughout the 2019 World Cup. Although Saqlain’s two-year contract had come to its end, the ECB authorities were impressed by Saqlain’s coaching abilities and offered him to stay on for an all-important tournament.

The 42-year-old’s lengthy stint with the English bowlers has seen him hone the skills of Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali, turning them into capable bowlers over the years. The spin duo has also routinely mentioned the guidance of Saqlain as key to their successes.

Saqlain is regarded highly in the cricketing world for being the pioneer of the ‘doosra’ delivery. He revolutionized the art of off-spin, and subsequent generations of spinners have looked up to him as their idol.
