Pakistan’s defeat at the hands of Afghanistan in the warm-up game ahead of the ICC World Cup has further exposed the inefficiencies of their bowling attack. After being thwacked by England consistently for 340+ scores in 4 consecutive games, Pakistan’s bowling was once again not up to the task as they failed to defend the modest total of 262 versus Afghanistan.
The inability of the pacers to pick up wickets has led to fans and cricket pundits criticizing bowling coach Azhar Mahmood. Having been with the team for a long period of time, Mahmood has received a lot of backlash for Pakistan’s ordinary performances with the ball.
However, Mahmood has found support from legendary swing bowler Wasim Akram, who believes that a coach’s job is only to advise his players while it is then up to the bowlers to follow that plan.
”He is getting stick back home but his job is to tell the boys, sweat with them and it’s the bowlers’ job to execute the plan on the field,” Wasim said during his commentary stint at the Afghanistan-Pakistan game.
