Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell has labelled Australia, India and England as the outright favorites for the upcoming 2019 World Cup. Outlining the importance of quality bowling attacks as the key to success at the tournament, Chappell specifically dished out praise on India’s variety in their bowling lineup.
“While not possessing the outright pace of England or Australia, India do have great variety and a trio of fast bowlers who can be exceptional in favourable conditions,” the ex-skipper claimed.
“If there's any moisture in the pitches then Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are skilled enough to take full advantage. If however the pitches start to wear and the conditions are dry, then Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are a dangerous wicket-taking combination,” he added.
Chappell thus believes India makes a strong contender for lifting the World Cup trophy for the third time in their cricketing history.
