A mixture of part-time off-spin from Joe Root and express pace from Jofra Archer blew apart the Afghanistan side in their second warm-up game ahead of the ICC World Cup. A pitch offering extra bounce to the bowlers proved to be the Achilles heel of the Afghan batters, as they were bundled out for a small total of 160 on the board.
Early collapse triggered by Archer’s speedy bowling was augmented by some wily variations employed by Root. Afghanistan were thus at one stage reeling at 92/8 before a few fireworks from the bat of Mohammad Nabi finally brought them closer to some semblance of a fighting total.
This abysmal batting performance is a reality check to the Afghanistan team, following soon after their memorable win over Pakistan two days ago. They will hence be putting in the extra efforts in uplifting their standards and producing better showings with the bat once the tournament kicks off.
