South African batting great, Hashim Amla has rediscovered his form after a lean run of poor scores in ODI cricket. Peaking at the right time, Amla will be hoping to extend his form throughout the ICC World Cup as his wealth of experience will come in handy for the Proteas.
Apart from the field of cricket, the 36-year-old has often been vocal about his devotion to his religion and how that has shaped his disciplined attitude towards the sport. The star batsman also recently revealed that he will be fasting during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, calling a great mental exercise that helps him refresh spiritually.
“Yeah it [fast] really helps in my conditioning. Fasting is something I always look forward to. It’s probably the best month of the year for me. Whenever we are playing cricket at the time especially during training sessions, physically yes you do feel hungry and thirsty but for me it’s a great mental exercise. But most importantly it’s a great spiritual exercise as well,” Amla remarked.
