Mark Wood cleared to feature in World Cup

England fast bowler Mark Wood, who injured his foot during the team’s first warm-up fixture against Australia, has been passed fit to play in the 2019 World Cup, after scans of his ankle and calf showed no serious damage.

Wood left the field limping early while running in to bowl as he complained of pain in his left foot and was forced to abandon his run-up. He was then unable to make a comeback during the remainder of the match.

The decision to not send him out again is fully understandable, given that Wood has undergone three ankle surgeries since his England debut in 2015, and has bowled just 13.1 overs thus far in the English summer this year.
