Morgan terms ‘leg-spin’ key to success in World Cup

After going down against Australia in the first warm-up game, England recorded an emphatic comeback by decimating Afghanistan to claim a needed victory before the commencement of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament. Batting first, Afghanistan was bundled out for 160 runs. In reply, England made a mockery of the chase by completing it within 18 overs.

The English team is confident to do more of the same in the upcoming mega-event. Following Afghanistan’s humbling, Eoin Morgan shared his views in the post-match presentation ceremony where he highlighted the role of leg-spinners on batting friendly wickets of the country. Considered as a wicket-taking option, leg-spinners have shown tremendous progress in the last two years or so. England’s Adil Rashid also played a central part in installing his unit as the top-ranked ODI team by claiming 81 wickets in the said period.

Pinpointing the success of wrist-spinners, the 32-year old added that whoever carries a strong set of leg-spin options will augment his chances of winning this edition of cricket’s biggest gala. Furthermore, the Dublin born is delighted with the progress of his unit as he aims to win England’s first 50-over World Cup title.
