Pakistan is set to host the forthcoming edition of the T20I Asia Cup in the year 2020 following the recent Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, held in Singapore. The 15th edition of the Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format and will take place in September before the 2020 T20 World Cup in Australia in October later that year.
The ACC meeting was attended by representatives from the top Asian countries in cricket – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Pakistan was represented at the meeting by chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani and Managing Director PCB Wasim Khan.
Pakistan was awarded the hosting rights for the tournament last year in December by Asian Cricket Council President Nazmul Hassan Papon. It was also decided in the meeting that the event will be shifted to another venue if Indo-Pak diplomatic ties do not improve.
Apart from a decision on the Asia Cup, the ACC also reaffirmed its stand to include cricket in the 2022 Asian Games scheduled in Hangzhou, China.
