The England cricket team is currently the number 1 ODI side in the World Cup which puts added pressure on them being the hosts of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. However, they have started their campaign with a comprehensive victory over the South African side.
Batting first, England put up a total of 311 on the board, thanks to a brilliant innings by Ben Stokes who carried the weight of the middle and lower order on his shoulders. With others batting around him, the all-rounder scored a crafty 89 off just 79 balls as he hit 9 boundaries during his stay at the wicket.
Furthermore, Stokes was exceptional in the field as he well as he saved runs and removed scalps with his fantastic fielding efforts. The all-rounder also took one of the best catches in World Cup history when he latched on to the ball at the cow corner to dismiss Andile Phehlukwayo with his left hand using reverse cup technique.
