England started their journey in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament in an epic fashion as hosts delivered a professional performance to best South Africa by 104 runs. Batting first, England posted a total of 311 runs which proved too much for the opposition.
All eyes were glued to the paceman Jofra Archer and he didn’t disappoint as the exuberant paceman regularly exploited extra bounce to befuddle the Proteas. At the halfway stage, South Africa was confident of gunning down the English total. However, the adroit all-rounder had other plans which dented South African batting line-up.
The 24-year old player, in his opening spell, bounced out Aiden Markram and skipper Faf du Plessis before returning to claim the crucial wicket of Rassie van der Dussen who was anchoring the South African chase. Jofra’s presence in the bowling ranks also took pressure off Chris Woakes and Liam Plunkett as England’s pace battery is looking glorious for the running edition of the mega-event. It would be interesting to see how Barbados born fares in the remaining games of the tournament.
