South Africa’s, Hashim Amla got a brute of a bouncer from England’s speedster, Jofra Archer and unfortunately had to retire hurt after getting on the head. Amla was eventually dismissed for 12 when the Proteas cause was already lost, but he effectively lost his wicket when Archer hit him.
The South African captain, Faf du Plessis has provided an update on Amla’s recovery and has shared the good news that the experienced opener is now perfectly fine for the next match. “He (Amla) is okay now and when he came back to the dressing room, he looked fine and hopefully that’s a good sign for the next game,” said skipper Faf du Plessis.
The Proteas went on to lose the match by 104 runs against the hosts England. They are next in action when they take on Bangladesh, also at The Oval, on Sunday and would be hoping to open their winning account in the World Cup.
