Fast rising pace sensation Kagiso Rabada has opined on the controversial racial quota prevalent in South African cricket. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has recently announced a lax attitude towards observing the 55% racial quota for players of colour in the team.
“At a professional level, players should be picked on merit. For me, transformation is all about getting an opportunity. I feel that players or people should be given the opportunity as much as possible,” Rabada said in an interview with a cricket publication.
He feels that transformation targets, as they are termed, can be ignored so long as every player is selected on his merit. He believed that providing equal opportunities is the long-term end goal and that should be preferred.
“In the past, it was an unfair system. Right now it should be fair, but just because you are black you should not be gifted opportunities,” he stated.
