New Zealand completed a crushing 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka and Martin Guptill was full of praise for how his team made the most of conditions in Cardiff. The opening batsman went rampant with the bat after Sri Lanka was bowled out cheaply for 136 runs. Martin Guptill and Colin Munro chased the target quite easily in just 16.1 overs.
Guptill addressed the media after a comprehensive victory. He said, "I think the beauty about our guys is they can exploit those conditions quite regularly".
"I guess you want to build that momentum early, and today we did that. Our bowlers put the ball in the right areas and made it difficult for Sri Lanka to really get a big start on. If we bowl first in the next few games, we can hopefully continue to do that and make it difficult for the guys to score," he further added.
New Zealand's victory in the opening game will provide them with immense confidence as they further progress into the mega-event. The kiwis will be eyeing to lift the trophy this time around after being runners-up last time.
