Afghanistan failed to make an impressive start in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament as they were defeated by Australia. Winning the toss, Afghan team decided to bat first but failed to capitalize the opportunity as Aussie bowling attack struck regularly to limit Afghanistan to 207, which was later chased within 35 overs.
One of the most notable points of the game was the massive support Afghanistan got in the crowd. A large number turned out to back the country which jubilated the skipper Gulbadin Naib who extended his gratitude to people.
Reflecting on the game and experiencing the backing from crowd, the 28-year old added that all this lifted his team’s morale as they are eager to record an impressive comeback in their next World Cup encounter. Moreover, the Logar born also admired the quality of the Australian team.
“There was a huge number of Afghans in the crowd which gave us a lot of energy. If you have this kind of audience and they are supporting you, and you know your side – you take a lot of positive things from crowd. We’ll look to bounce back in the next game,” said by Gulbadin Naib as he thanked the crowd for creating a fantastic atmosphere in Bristol.
