Coming into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament, Pakistan had a major loophole concerning their power-hitting department. To address this concern, explosive batsman Asif Ali was roped into the side against England from where he produced laudable displays and earned his World Cup spot.
However, shocking all the fans, Pakistan decided to drop him for their World Cup opener against West Indies. This led to a backlash as former cricketers lampooned the move. The voices to include Asif Ali in the final eleven have started gaining momentum as after Wasim Akram, former Pakistan spinner Iqbal Qasim advised Pakistan to utilize Asif’s firepower.
Sharing his views on Pakistan’s power-hitting conundrum, the Karachi born added that in the presence of so many anchors, it was only natural to use Asif’s belligerence. Moreover, the 65-year old believes that the absence of Akmal brothers presents a dire need of having a slogger in Pakistan’s team. The boys in green, after suffering a humbling defeat against West Indies, will have to pick themselves up if they are to make it to the final four of the ongoing 50-over competition.
