After handling their fans a plethora of heart-breaks, Pakistan finally returned to the winning ways and that too in some style. To end their 11-match losing streak in ODI cricket, Pakistan picked the top-ranked ODI side England in the 6th game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament.
Hosts won the toss but decided to bowl first as chasing has been a preferred option on a ground which dishes out flat tracks and short boundaries. Pakistan, after being invited to bat first, produced the highest tournament of this World Cup by amassing 348 runs which were later defended by bowlers as they engaged in an epic thriller.
The standout performer of the day was none other than veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez who portrayed his class in all the three departments of the game. After mustering a classy 84 consuming only 62 balls, the Sargodha born player returned to spoil England’s chase by foxing skipper Eoin Morgan and rattling his stumps. The party didn’t end there as he also contributed in the dismissal of centurion Joe Root which dented the English unit.
Producing an iconic performance at a much needed time jubilated the 38-year old cricketer as he revealed his ambitions of continuing the good run and help Pakistan win their second 50-over World Cup.
