Veteran Afghanistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad has been ruled out of the World Cup following an unfortunate knee injury and has thus been replaced in the squad by the 18-year-old Ikram Ali Khil.
The 32-year-old has been a constant figure in the Afghanistan dressing room ever since they made their mark in international cricket, and his absence will have a huge effect on the morale of the team. The bulky wicketkeeper has been pivotal at the top of the innings for Afghanistan, providing them with swift starts.
Shahzad had played in Afghanistan’s two defeats thus far in the World Cup versus Australia and Sri Lanka, and visibly struggling with fitness issues. His replacement, Ikram has represented his team in only 3 international games.
