MS Dhoni has found himself in the center of a controversy after it was revealed that the wicketkeeper-batsman was sporting gloves bearing an Indian army insignia during the match against South Africa at Southampton.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has thus asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to remove the sign from the gloves since it goes against the rules and regulations of the game.
However, ICC’s stance has not been welcomed by several renowned Indian figures, as they have taken to Twitter to slam the apex body for their perceived prejudice against India. Sports Minister of India Kiren Rijju urged the BCCI to actively back Dhoni.
Meanwhile, actors Riteish Deshmukh, Rahul Dev and Paresh Rawal all defended Dhoni’s gesture of paying tribute to sacrifice of the Indian armed forces, and that it had nothing to do with making a political statement.
Moreover, Dhoni found support from his former teammates RP Singh and Suresh Raina, who pointed out Dhoni’s honorary position of a lieutenant colonel in the Indian army.
