Fiery left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz was brought into the Pakistan squad for the World Cup from the international cricket wilderness. Having not participated in a single ODI for the past 2 years, Wahab’s surprising inclusion raised many eyebrows but he immediately made an impact in the game versus England.
Relying on high speeds to intimidate the batsmen and employing effective use of reverse swing, Wahab picked 3 crucial wickets in his side’s 14-run win over the tournament hosts and favorites. Talking about his sudden surge in form, Wahab disclosed that he was being inspired by the presence of legendary fast bowling duo Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis around him.
“I am here taking wickets and getting inspiration from Wasim Akram who I watched bowling in my childhood and have idolised all my career and my former coach Waqar Younis. They are inspiring me here,” Wahab spoke.
