Fans of both Pakistan and Sri Lanka were left frustrated after Friday's World Cup match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was abandoned without a ball being bowled following persistent rain in Bristol. It is the first match at the World Cup in England and Wales to be abandoned without a result.
Following the washed out match, the similar pattern of the 1992 World Cup, which Pakistan won has emerged. In 1992, Pakistan also started off in a similar pattern, lost, win and washed out. Pakistan had also lost to West Indies in its opening match before winning the second game in the tournament, against Zimbabwe in 1992 drawing parallels with their victory against England in 2019.
The interesting pattern has made all the Pakistani fans excited and they believe Pakistan will now go on to win its second ICC World Cup under the leadership of Sarfaraz Ahmed. Pakistan will next play Australia in Taunton on 12th June.
