Following South Africa’s 3rd straight defeat at the World Cup 2019, reports started to emerge that the legendary batsman AB de Villiers had offered to play for the Proteas at the world event only to have his offer declined by Cricket South Africa (CSA).
The 35-year-old De Villiers, who captained South Africa at the 2015 World Cup, had retired from all forms of international cricket in May 2018. Following the shocking revelation, cricket fans were left divided over the opinion on his selection.
However, the maverick batsman has pleaded with fans to support the Proteas at the World Cup and that he believes, despite the results so far, South Africa can still win the tournament.
The 35-year-old represented South Africa in three editions of the 50-over World Cup, scoring 1,207 runs in 23 matches with the highest knock of 162 runs.
