The two modern day batting greats Virat Kohli and Steve Smith resumed their rivalry out in the middle in the World Cup clash between India and Australia. While both players struck half-centuries, Kohli’s knock ended up on the winning side.
Amidst the electrifying cricket action, Kohli displayed great sportsmanship on his part after he proceeded to silence a section of the Indian crowd booing Smith during the Indian innings. Kohli gestured towards his compatriot supporters to instead applaud Smith’s efforts in the field and then the Aussie thanked him as a show of gratitude.
“What's happened has happened, he's come back, he's worked hard, he's playing well for his side now. Just because there are so many Indian fans here, I didn't want them to set a bad example. He didn't do anything to be booed in my opinion,” Kohli later said in the post-match press conference.
