The LED bails have come under the scanner after 5 instances have already occurred in the World Cup where the bails have failed to come off after the ball has hit the wicket. Virat Kohli and Aaron Finch among others expressed their concern regarding the use of these ‘zing bails’ but the International Cricket Council (ICC) has stated it cannot change the bails midway through the tournament.
“The playing conditions do not allow us to change it mid-way through the tournament. The equipment and rules are the same for all 10 teams. If anything is changed now, it wouldn't be fair on some teams,” a source in ICC claimed.
Moreover, they argued that this technology had been in place in the 2015 World Cup and in various T20 leagues around the globe. Hence, nothing out of the ordinary has been altered with the texture of the bail as compared to previous times.
