Right-arm pacer Josh Hazlewood was the key performer for Australia and was a vital cog of their potent seam bowling attack when they won the World Cup at home in 2015. However, this time around the 28-year-old has been left out of the squad after a long period away from the action due to his persistent struggles with injuries.
He is, nevertheless, all focused on preserving his spot in Australia’s Test squad and would be raring to go hard in the Ashes series later this summer. Still disheartened at missing out on representing his team on the biggest stage, Hazlewood revealed that he is busy trying to pretend the World Cup is not taking place and does not tune in to the matches.
“I’m trying to focus on what I’m doing up here. I’ll sit down at night and watch a couple of overs but I’m trying to steer clear of it a little bit. The more you watch something, the more you probably miss it. So I’m just trying to pretend it’s not on, to a degree,” he said.
