Pakistan despite showing a lot of promise and pulling their way back into the game against Australia was defeated in the 17th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament.
Batting first, defending champions posted a gigantic total of 307 which brought back Pakistan’s chasing horrors as the men in blue suffered a heart-breaking defeat by a margin of 41 runs.
Seeing a bit of green in the wicket moved the Pakistani think tank to hand a World Cup debut to their gun pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi despite not being in good form. The start wasn’t an ideal one as the tall fellow leaked 24 runs in his first 2 overs before getting replaced by Hasan Ali.
However, showing his prowess, the 19-year old recorded an impressive comeback in his later overs. The astute quick produced an adventurous performance as he bowled at a much better channel to uproot belligerent strikers Glenn Maxwell and David Warner which allowed the boys in green to keep Australia to a manageable total.
To his dismay, Pakistan failed to counter the total as they ran out of gas to register their second defeat in the ongoing cricket gala.
