Match Tied (Royal Challengers Bangalore win one-over eliminator)
Asif Ali had a horrid time in the field against Australia in Pakistan’s 41-run loss in the important World Cup clash. The 27-year-old was selected in Pakistan’s squad for the tournament primarily because of his power hitting skills, but not only did he flounder in the batting department, his poor slip-ups in the field cost the Men in Green dearly.
Asif was positioned in first slip when he dropped a sitter offered by the edge of Aaron Finch’s bat, who then went on to get a big score. Later in the same innings, Asif once again missed an easy chance from David Warner adding more woes to Pakistan’s lackluster show.
Twitter was soon flooded with posts condemning Asif’s lethargic display in the field, while others questioned the need for skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed to place him in the slips when Babar Azam has usually fulfilled these duties.
Managing just 5 runs and missing two costly opportunities, Asif would be hoping his nightmare show against Australia would not be repeated in the rest of the tournament.
