The Indian cricket team has suffered a major blow in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 after losing Shikhar Dhawan to a hairline fracture for 3 weeks. The left-hander sustained the injury during the game against Australia as he scored a hundred with an injured thumb.
The team management has not decided to call any permanent replacement for the opener as they want to access his condition over the next few days before making the final call.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked Rishabh Pant to join the squad as the temporary replacement for Dhawan.
Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has made it clear that Dhawan is expected to return to full fitness after 10-12 days, however, Pant has been called up so that he would be ready and gelled in the team if and when he is needed.
