Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed’s decision to put India in to bat first after winning the toss completely backfired as he was left reeling with the consequences of a dominant opening partnership forged by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.
Before the match began, several former players, including Prime Minister Imran Khan, had advised Pakistan to bat first and lay the platform for putting scoreboard pressure on India. However, Sarfaraz acted contrary to the popular opinion and soon attracted heated criticism.
Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar took to Twitter to once again pose question marks over the logic of Pakistan team management’s decision to field first. He referred to Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s choice to bowl first during the ICC Champions Trophy final two years ago, which ended terribly for the Men in Blue as they were blown away by 180 runs.
