After the defeat against Australia in their last game, Pakistan needed a strong day against arch-rivals India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament. However, it turned out to be another disappointing outing as the men in blue defeated the boys in green by 89 runs (D/L method) to keep their unscathed World Cup record alive.
For this much anticipated contest, Pakistan were boosted by Amir’s bowling form and the veteran paceman didn’t disappoint. The Gujjar Khan bowler recorded another impressive bowling outing where he targeted nagging line and length to trouble Indian batters. Doing so, Amir claimed crucial wickets of Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Picking three wickets at the expense of 47 runs, the sensational bowling effort helped Pakistan to limit India to 336 which also saw Amir’s position getting strong as the leading wicket-taker of the competition. While both Amir and Mitchell Starc have hunted 13 scalps but the former has played one less game.
Nevertheless, Pakistan ran out of gas in a high-pressure run chase as they fell 58 runs short to help India stay unbeaten in the tournament. Pakistan’s next World Cup fixture will take place after a week-long gap against South Africa on June 23 at Lord’s.
