Afghanistan coach Phil Simmons penned a frustrated tweet, directing criticism on the chief selector Dawlat Ahmadzai for his increasingly intervening role in trying to manage the cricketing affairs. Although Simmons later retracted his tweet, his raging sentiments still exposed the friction that exists between the coach and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).

“I am in the middle of a World Cup and trying to get our team to perform to the level we expect but at the end of the World Cup I will tell the Afghanistan people about the part that Mr Dawlat Ahmadzai had to play in our preparation and his part in the dismissal of #AsgharAfghan,” Simmons’ deleted tweet read, in response to a journalist claiming that Ahmadzai had blamed the West Indian for the World Cup defeats.
Afghanistan’s World Cup preparations received a huge shock when long-time skipper Asghar Afghan was unceremoniously removed for Gulbadin Naib. Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi protested this decision but shortly after accepted on behalf of the greater good of the team.
