Afghanistan batsman Hashmatullah Shahidi was rattled by a sharp bouncer from England pacer Mark Wood, causing him to lose his balance and fall to the ground. Soon, the physio came onto the ground and attended Shahidi but the left-hander shrugged off medical advice and continued to bat.
Later, he revealed he did this primarily out of concern for his mother so that she does not feel worried about her son’s wellbeing. Shahidi’s brave decision to keep on batting paid dividends as he brought up his fighting half-century albeit in a losing cause.
“I got up early because of my mum. I lost my father last year. So, I didn't want her to hurt. My whole family was watching, even my big brother was here in the ground watching the match. I didn't want them to be worried for me,” Shahidi said.
