When everyone was talking about Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan having a horrid day with the ball against England, Mali’s female cricket team was making their own history, and not a good one.
In the Kwibuka Women’s tournament, Rwanda bowled out Mali for a mere six runs, the lowest total in a women’s T20Is. The Mali innings lasted nine overs, but only one of their six runs came off the bat, courtesy opener Mariam Samake. After that, it was a sequence of ducks, with five extras.
The previous lowest score in T20 internationals was the 14 scored by China’s women’s team against the UAE in January this year. In reply, Rwanda openers Antoinette Uwimbabazi and Nyirankundineza knocked off the runs in four balls. The victory with 116 balls remaining is also a world record.
