Bangladesh have displayed a fighting spirit in this World Cup thus far, pulling off emphatic wins over West Indies and South Africa. While they recently succumbed to a 48-run defeat against Australia, Bangladesh did extremely well to stave off the Aussie pace attack and reach their highest total in ODI cricket in pursuit of the mammoth target of 382.
Optimistic about Bangladesh’s chances of making it to the top four, veteran opener Tamim Iqbal claimed the Tigers were striving hard to secure a semi-final berth. He mentioned the team was not satisfied with a mid-table position and wanted to be among the top-ranked teams in the world.
“I think we still have a chance. I don’t think any of my teammates are thinking along those lines [a fifth-place finish]. We have a chance if we win three matches. If God forbid we don’t have anything to play for, then we will think about No 5,” Tamim said.
