Former West Indies skipper Brain Lara has thrown in support behind KL Rahul to continue as India’s opening batsman in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, who was ruled out of the World Cup due to a finger injury.
Lara rated Rahul as India’s second best batsman, right next to their captain Virat Kohli. A huge compliment for the youngster, Lara surprisingly chose to rank Rahul above Rohit Sharma, who has been in sizzling form. The Caribbean batting maestro feels Rahul possesses the requisite technique to succeed on the highest level.
“Rahul is India’s second-best batsman after Virat Kohli and he has been the opening batsman for IPL as well. While batting at number four, India has already made a masterstroke as just in case if there is a mishap in the beginning of the game, he has come in at number four and played like an opening batsman,” the legendary batsman said.
