The Afghanistan spinners bowled splendidly to keep a check on the flow of runs from the Indian batsmen during the encounter between the two sides at the Rose Bowl. The trio of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb ur Rahman found significant turn to tame the opposition to a low score of 224.
Although Afghanistan lost the match by a narrow 11-run margin, the brilliance displayed by spinners impressed skipper Gulbadin Naib. “Any team [can be beaten]. Like you saw it against India - the best side, the best batting attack all over the world. But our spinners are one of the best spin attacks in the world,” Naib claimed.
This is a huge statement from the all-rounder as Afghanistan has been unable to get off the mark in the points table so far in the World Cup. His comments perhaps ring more true when pitch conditions are conducive to spin.
