The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has barred right-arm pacer Aftab Alam from further participating in the remainder of the World Cup for violation of a disciplinary code of conduct. Alam had played in three matches thus far in this tournament and now has been dropped from the squad under ‘exceptional circumstances’.
“The decision stops Alam from further participating in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 as he will be under investigation by ACB for the alleged misconduct off the field,” the statement from the ACB read.
This latest shuffling of players is another blow to a turbulent World Cup campaign for Afghanistan. They are yet to register a win after seven straight losses and there has been increasing friction between the board and certain players in the team which was visible when Mohammad Shahzad was contentiously excluded from the squad midway.
