For almost 4 good years or so, England looked to be on the right track of claiming their maiden 50-over World Cup title. However, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament’s journey hasn’t been ideal for hosts as they are now in need of strong shows against India and New Zealand to confirm their semi-final berth.
Despite having a promising start to the ongoing mega-event, England is now found struggling for a spot in the next stage because of unexpected losses to Sri Lanka and Pakistan. This has shattered their plans which moved fans and former cricketers to take a dig at the strategy of England.
All of this hasn’t gone down well with English cricketer Jonny Bairstow who opined that reaction to England’s defeats have been disappointing. The dynamic opening batsman opined that the criticism is a ‘typical’ English one as he also recalled the events where England’s football team came under media scrutiny.
“People were waiting for us to fail. They are not willing us on to win. In many ways, they are waiting for you to get that loss, so they can jump on your throat. It’s a typical English thing to do – in every sport,” said by Jonny Bairstow as he blasted on the critics of England’s team.
