The World Cup underdogs, Afghanistan came agonizingly close to causing the upset of the tournament but Pakistan had other plans at the end. Imad Wasim and a spirited effort from Wahab Riaz saw Pakistan crossing the line in the last over to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
There is a freakish similarity between Pakistan 1992 World Cup and current Pakistan’s World Cup campaign. The parallel symmetry is almost too real to be ignored and some pundits also have gone to say that history is repeating itself and Pakistan will go on to become the champions this year.
However, fast-bowler, Wahab Riaz states that the team is not reading too much into the parallels being drawn with the victorious 1992 World Cup squad despite undergoing a similar resurgent campaign in the 2019 edition.
"We don't really talk about 1992 that much. The first thing is in this team, everybody has the same purpose. That's where we started off and where we remain,” he said.
