Imad Wasim finally proves his all-round credentials after playing an exquisite innings under difficult circumstances to steer his team to an important and thrilling victory against Afghanistan on Saturday at Leeds.
He ended unbeaten on 49, having taken an over from Afghanistan’s captain Gulbadin for 18 when all had seemed lost and crashed the winning runs himself with a glorious cover drive. Reflecting back on his match-winning performance, Imad said he wasn’t nervous at all.
"I wasn't nervous, it wasn't like that. We have very good players and I knew if one of us stayed in, we’d get to the target. It just happened. Rashid was bowling brilliantly and our plan was first not to give him a wicket, and then we could target the rest,” Imad said.
Imad Wasim got the player of the match award for his match-winning innings and bowling an impressive spell of 2 for 48. Pakistan will face Bangladesh in their next encounter on Friday at Lord’s.
