India succumbed to a 31-run defeat giving England a much-needed victory to revive their hopes of a semi-final spot. India’s batting never looked attacking enough to chase down the steep target of 338 despite a strong foundation being built by skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma at the start of the innings.
Ridiculous tactics opted by the late order batsmen MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav in particular attracted the wrath of former cricketers Sourav Ganguly and Sanjay Manjrekar who criticized the lack of intent shown by the two to drive India towards an unlikely victory.
Nasser Hussain claimed during his commentary stint: “Surely Indian fans will want to see Dhoni have a go. They have paid good money & are going home before the end of the match.”
