Pakistan’s route to semi-finals would have been made easier had India triumphed over England in the crucial World Cup encounter. In a rare occurrence, Pakistan cricket fans were cheering for the Indian team to win against the tournament hosts as this would have made their team’s life easy to go through to the knockout stages.
However, India’s chase completely fell apart in the final few overs as a visible lack of intent from MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav stemmed the Men in Blue’s charge towards the end. Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur was also disappointed with India’s lackadaisical show against England and was saddened by the fact they gave up early in the chase.
“How India played against England that's an issue which we can't control. Obviously I was following the game intently and was disappointed that India did not get up because that would have opened the door for us,” Arthur said.
