What if West Indies didn’t squander the opportunity against Australia? What if Carlos Brathwaite hit the much needed six? What if they finished off the chase against Sri Lanka? What if the game against South Africa’s hadn’t been spoiled by rain? If one looks back at the journey of West Indies in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament, it can be termed as a ‘journey of ifs’.
All this did enough to put the exciting Caribbean team out of contention as the mega-event reaches its business end. West Indian skipper Jason Holder was in tatters to see his team losing position of advantage time and again to concede crucial games. Even in their last game which took place against Sri Lanka, West Indies failed to seal the chase from a position of strength.
The 27-year old while decoding his team’s journey in the biggest cricketing gala admitted the loopholes which threw them out of the race. Holder added that his bunch allowed key moments to slip in this World Cup and that’s how they missed an opportunity to play the semi-finals of the competition. However, he urged his team to pick themselves up and finish the tournament strongly.
