Sri Lanka’s dream of claiming glory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 tournament was shattered with India’s defeat against England. The topsy-turvy journey of the Islanders witnessed them overpowering a spirited West Indian unit to register their third victory of the tournament.
However, Sri Lankans have no plans to finish badly as the all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva expressed his wish to see his unit beating India in their last game. The 27-year old believes that Sri Lanka gained massive confidence with a close victory against West Indies and this belief can be used to conquer the men in blue. Sri Lanka’s last World Cup fixture is scheduled to be played against India on July 6 at Leeds.
“We’ve done well against India in other ICC tournaments and we’ve just beaten West Indies so if we can take that confidence and momentum into the next game then we can beat India again. The plan is to win every match and if we defeat India then we can finish fifth,” said by de Silva as he is sanguine about Sri Lanka ending their World Cup journey on a high note.
